Welcome Messages

Welcome Message from Chairperson Conference Organising Committee

On behalf of the organising committee and Gosford City Council, it is my pleasure to invite you to join us at the 50th Floodplain Management Authorities (FMA) Conference, to be held at Gosford on the Central Coast of New South Wales from 23-26 February 2010.

Being the 50th Anniversary of the FMA, Gosford 2010 will celebrate what has been achieved and look forward to the new challenges ahead of us. It will not be just about emerging issues in floodplain management, but will be a balanced discussion of practical, on-ground floodplain management and the policies and programs that impact on floodplain management across New South Wales, Australia and the globe.

Gosford 2010 also provides a fantastic opportunity to experience Gosford and the Central Coast. Home to the ninth largest urban area in Australia, the Central Coast includes many world-class beaches and national parks, providing an exciting backdrop to the 2010 Floodplain Management Authorities Conference, and associated social program and field trips.

The Gosford 2010 program will feature a number of outstanding national and international speakers, concurrent sessions, workshops and poster presentations. It will attract over 250 delegates from Australia and beyond and provides a wonderful opportunity to meet and extend contacts.

Delegates will include Commonwealth, State and Local Government representatives, research and education organisations, managers, planners and engineers, non-government organisations, user groups, Aboriginal groups, community organisations, and the business community.

I look forward to welcoming both new and returning delegates to this exciting landmark event.

Eddie Love
Chairperson Conference Organising Committee

Welcome Message from the Mayor of Gosford City

As Mayor of Gosford City, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to Gosford on the beautiful Central Coast of NSW to attend the Floodplain Management Authorities (FMA) conference.

We are honoured to be hosting the Gosford 2010 conference as it will be extra special in that it coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the Floodplain Management Authorities.

The theme for Gosford 2010 is "2060 - what will your flood legacy be?"

It's about encouraging us all to think about what legacy will be left behind from the work that we are doing now, and what steps we can take to ensure that our contribution to current and future generations is a positive and long-lasting one.

I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you a little about the Central Coast.

Our unique area is one of contrasts. Gosford is the capital of the Central Coast, and while we have all the conveniences of city living, including the largest single-level shopping centre in the southern hemisphere, we also have spectacular scenery, award-winning beaches that attract over 2.2 million people each year during the official summer season, and many tourist attractions.

The Gosford 2010 program will feature leaders in the field, presenting on a range of topics from education, climate change and water cycle management to mitigating flood disasters, risk management and emergency response.

We will also be putting together a social program incorporating some of the best attractions the Central Coast has to offer while allowing ample networking opportunities.

Rest assured our dedicated and hard-working organising committee will ensure the conference is informative and your stay is memorable. I hope you are encouraged to join us from 23-26 February Gosford 2010, to see for yourself all that the Central Coast has to offer.

Councillor Chris Holstein
Mayor of Gosford City
